RE: Pit Bulls

I agree. However there are other dogs that are viscous also...and need to be on  a tighter watch too. I know in the country I was told there is no leash law...dont know if it is true or not. I do know someone was almost attacked by a mastiff and was told that "there is nothing we can do,unless it has bitten someone"...well THEN it it too late.So WHY are they allowed to RUN LOOSE.

Dogs aren't to blame.  Whether it be a pitbull or a dachsund.  The owners are the ones that should be held responsible.  I've got friends who have pitbulls and they're the nicest dogs to be around.  Granted yes the pitbull is alittle more agressive then some other dogs, but it's not always the dog.  You have to look at how they were trained, not the species of dog.  A dachsund can be a very mean dog if trained or miss treated.  All I ask is take into some consideration that it may not be the animals fault, it may have been trained to be that way or miss treated.  So before you go putting all that money into different colored collars, micro-chips, or mandating 100,000 liability insurance for those people who can properly train a dog maybe you should look towards the owners and not a their pet.

Pit Bulls in Cowley County seem to be increasing and I think it is time for the City to look at changing or making some new rules.

Salina Ks requires:

 (1) Annual permits

(2) Confinement in locked pens

(3) Microchips for I.D.

(4) Special Colored Collar

(5) 100,000 Liability insurance

Although I strongly agree with the fact that People are to blame for the behavior of thier animals.. I also think some breeds have been breed to be more aggressive. I watch the Dog Whisperer on the Discovery Channel and Cesar Milan believes it is the owner that makes the Dog aggressive and I do think Pit Bulls have got a bad wrap because it has become the "hip" thing to have them and to make them into fighters. Which I think is absoluetly sad!! But I have to admit I have two young daughters at home and unless I raised the animal myself I would not trust it no matter what the breed. I also think the reason you hear more about the pit bull is because of the breeding patterns and the way they are raised now days and to the fact they simply cause more deaths each year than any other dog so what that has to do with htis whole equation Im not sure but imposing 100,000. Liabilty insurance on just one breed is unfair. There are many breeds that can become very dominant without the proper training. I guess I just wanted to reply and put my two cents in cause Im a avid animal lover and I hate the fact that all these animal are being put down because people dont know how to properly train them and they wind up in the Humane Society and the channel & news.!!!
