As we are all aware the United States economy has fallen, and where it finally going to end up is the Trillion Dollar Bailout Question?
Clearly, every resident of Arkansas City can choose to make their own impact upon the businesses within Arkansas City. Buying local and from the smaller businesses just makes pure common sense at this time.
Larger businesses we know as the great chain stores will no doubt survive even if they do need cutbacks. What I am referring to for all to ponder upon are the smaller home grown downtown businesses. Clearly, they need and sure would appreciate your spendable dollars to bolster their business in this failing economy, and to ride out the economy that may yet be ahead as it impacts all around us.
Every dollar spent downtown may be the best dollar we spend in the long run of keeping downtown business around today and or tomorrow.
Clearly, this is your choice alone to consider upon. For it is true that many items are a few pennies more downtown than elsewhere: But, what would downtown look like if they were all not there?
We can make an impact! You must choose, not I ( ? )
What are your thoughts upon this?
Does downtown business have a special meaning to you?
Where you buy and spend right now: Makes a noted difference!
Blessings........Annlee Just my thoughts shared while economy heads south.

Your views are true. We must patronize locally or our town will shrivel to hovels surrounding one giant retail chain store which shall remain unnamed. That chain store can ask whatever price it wants for its products as soon as all the little people are gone.
What is even a bit more truthful: Is that when the Government does
give you the numbers of jobless, based on those drawing unemployment: The fact is those figures are way way way to low because they stop counting anyone once their benefits run out. While they show millions now collecting...they do not any longer list the millions that have run out of benefits. Nor are all those laid off from non full time employment jobs ever listed because they never can collect unemployment in the first place. The actual number of out of work people far exceeds what we are being told.
When they give a figure you can fairly with logic at least double that figure and then your closer to the true answer.
Obama's new plan...18 months down the road........Will not, and is not able to aid all those out of work right now by the milions, and these people have no way of saving their homes without incomes..thus homes will and shall continue in failure for a very long time:
Nevertheless, money mongers are starting to buy up these cheap cheap foreclosures at a fantastic rate with the Billions OUR VERY OWN GOVERNMENT GACE THEM IN BAILOUT FUNDS: Yet! No aid for the working families that actually aids them RIGHT NOW....Jobs are scarce and people need income for even basic food much less their shelter needs RIGHT NOW!
Congress is not passing anything aimed to assist families ASAP........But, they are passing billions to guarantee the PORK!
Some look at this with "rose colored glasses" and think all these billions and heading well into the trillions will "fix" and "cure" the economy, and even bring as Obama says 2 to 3 million jobs in the future: For over ten plus million out of work that becomes laughable and sic.
People still working need to cut everything back, and prepare for what is ahead:
Depression!
Even in Arkansas City we are feeling the impact! Every dime you spend and where you spend it may make a larger difference that anyone imagines.
Ponder on that when you need a loaf of bread!
Blessings..........Annlee

Thats strange I always thought the small home town shops charged more, because they did not receive all the perks from the city like the bigger one s do. If you employee more fols you get the better breaks right?
I agree that there are some issues but if everyone thinks as negatively as Annlee the economy will indeed never recover. I realize that many people are without jobs but those with jobs need to continue what they are doing in order to help the people that don't have jobs. Confusing I know, but if people with jobs don't spend money then the jobs that were lost will never come back. I have to admit though that saving does sound more secure but if you have the money, now is the time to invest. And no I am not a financial advisor.
Well, I just found this subject. My husband and I shop mostly where we can find what we need. But we do not go to Walmart unless we cannot get what we need anyplace else.Like fabric and yarn. We get everything else at Graves, Ace hardware,Bryants when they were open.Taylor drug, Jan's sport shack and Dillons.I get a lot of things at Dillons besides food. The service is good and the prices are not any more and sometimes less then Walmart at those places. We shopped a lot at walmart, until they got bigger,I don't have time to go across that big building for one item and the other for one item. Evan when we shopped at the old walmart we still shopped a lot at the stores I just mentioned.Evan at Christmas we shop in ARkansas City or Winfield.Since we live between it is nice to shop locally.I do wish there was a shoe store in A.C.,but there is one in Winfield. They get a lot of business from out of town and he said when the bluegrass festival is going on a lot of those folks come and buy their shoes for the year and they don't have a shoe store in their town and the price is good. Well, that is what we do. Sunflower
