1212, veedub, oldman, etc. Don't forget I'm not saying that I know some of these things are fact. I am very careful to say that Mr. Emerson or a deputy told me these things. Heresay yes but then so is some of what you claim right. Am I obsessed? no more then some of you. Oldman thats a real stretch, you have to go that far just to try and make him look bad? Say what you will the fact will always remain no matter how it happened in the meeting, he was the top cop of Udall for 2 months. Top out of a couple reserves? so what. Top out of a town population of what a couple thousand maybe? So what. Worked for Daniels ready mix? Isn't that in Winfield? So what. Did Mr. Emerson have to answer to people as he would if he had the official title? Did he do some of the work that a Chief would do? Did he really lie or just make very small mistake in the wording. Also lets not forget he did admit he should have said officer in charge or interim chief. It takes a very big man to admit an error or that he made a mistake or apologize. Mr. Clinton said he never had sexual relations with that woman, and he puffed on a marijuana cigarette but did not inhale. O.J. Simpson say he didn't do it. I could go on for days with people who don't admit a mistake.
Now then I'm going to do the same thing that a couple people have done recently on this forum and that is, right my final statement. I won't have the last word because several of you will reply and that is ok. Veedub is correct we do have the freedom of speech. I will concede final say to you.
I think it has all been said and we need to move on to Tuesday. I'm going to review what the 2 candidate's experience's and platforms are. Mr. Read has outstanding credintials. Mr. Emerson's is not as impressive but truly commendable and he does have a large degree of actual administrative experience in several areas. Comparing experience and training I have to be honest and fair and give this one to Mr. Read.
On their platforms I think Mr. Emerson has shown that he is truly thinking about the county budget and how to make some cuts while not cutting service. In fact increasing service in some areas. I have to agree with some of you on the cars, I'm not totaly convinced on that one but I think he said he wanted to look at some of the non patrol vehicles first and then a couple deputy cars to see what happens this sounds excellent to me. He is also wanting to look at some kind of facility for juveniles, I'd like to hear more about this one. The inmate work crews sounds damn good to me having inmates actually work and help the county maintenance budget. Extra large kudos on this one. Mr. Read wants a K9 unit back in the county. Great idea on this one. A citizens review board. I'm not sure what he is looking for here but I think anythime we are included that is good. The drug court and at risk group things, Mr. Emerson said he would also participate in. That leaves the acreditation issue. Bad choice here costs alot of money for another cerificate on his wall. The platforms clearly have to go to Mr. Emerson
This looks around 50/50 to me. I will admit I met Mr. Emerson first. But his personallity is the victor here. He is very easy to talk to. I have spoke to him in person 4 times and Mr. Read twice. Mr. Read has alot to talk about with his experience. Mr. Emerson talks as much or more about this but also his platform. A major difference I noticed was Mr. Emerson called me by my name he also asked were I worked and about my family. Mr. Read did none of this. Mr. Emerson talked about our football and wrestling teams, Our main street projects. He talked about the Red Cross and wanting more volunteers and involvement from us. Finally he has done alot of work for our veterans. You have 2 more nights to talk to him at the fair. Give him a chance. I think you'll see what I mean.
Thanks Webmaster this has been very informative and alot of fun.
No actually I was quoting that from a deputy I ran into at the fair. He stated it was only because the county is so big, and they are usually very busy. He said this is true the further away from Ark City or Winfield you get as it is the first responders from the smaller communities that arrive first. He said He agrees with Mr. Emerson on the speed they should drive but he was not yet convinced the smaller vehicles would be right for the deputies.
Have you ever noticed in policitcs it is usually the best candidate that takes the most beating. I guess this is probably because the opposition feels threatened.
I would like to add, this same deputy told me that there is a couple of deputies he knows are the ones writting several posts on this subject. He said he is remaining neutral. He said they may be working for the very man they are saying bad things about. I have to wonder, would they play fair weather fan and shift to being just as loyal to Mr. Emerson.
Before I logged on this morning I read Mr. Emerson's response in the paper. Looks to me like my boy has a pretty good answer. Ouh Oh, He's back on top. This is gonna be good.
