If they do get convicted, it is of a lesser crime. Many times, very little jail time is served and Cowley is just satisfied with "fines".

Throw us out an example here. Never came across a charge that doesn't have some form of punishment if guilty.

It would be very interesting to know just exactly what it take for someone who broke the law to even end up in court or did not pay a fine of any kind.

We have seen a good example earlier this year of one such person who not only broke the law but got a refund on the bond money put up. I think that there are more people who nerver see the inside of the jail or court room after breaken the law than those who see court and get off easy with lesser charges.
Just a thought with this new transperant government will we ever find out just what or how many cases of the same kind are dropped for some people and not for others or isn't breaking the law breaking the law for everyone?evileye

The Traveler editor has already told us that not all info is given to the paper, too!

I read these, but have not posted as yet until today. What do you do? You mention one person that even got his bail money back. There are at least two unless we are talking about the same person. I am so tired of this person and his crap that he is full of that I don't know what 2 do!! How do they get by with it. If you are a local businessman, have the money to throw around to not get in trouble, pay people off, buy advertising so your name doesn't get printed. These are all just the beginning. This man is ruining my family and he is getting away with it. weirdface

How does a person get charged with the same thing two or three times too and never hear about it. I guess if you are a businessperson (man) with money that would seem to help. Yes to get back your bond money, too.

This is a result of no accountability on the part of our judicial system in Cowley County. The prosecutors are tasked with making cases like this a priority. Family violence is a plague that will not soon go away. What message is being sent to other violent abusers of similar caliber? If you are a member of the country club, or if you clean and repair teeth for a living you can do whatever you want to your family and get your bond money back. Sorry for the inconvenience and have a nice day! Last I checked we are dealing with an elected position. I have noticed that no one else is running for the position of County Attorney. I believe pressure needs to be applied to see that cases like this are not washed away like plaque during a routine cleaning.

I agree with wayward one....While back there was a local dentist that was in the winfield newspaper with domestic viloence with his wife. But did it make it in our paper!! of couse not. These high payin people get away with all sorts of stuff because they got money.

According to James, the Traveler reports everything that the police department gives them. Interesting to hear that it was reported in the Courier.

I can speak from experience and know that the traveler does not print everything given to them by the pd.  All a person has to do is call and ask not to have their name in the paper and most of the time they will be accomadated.idea

Yeah right, I tried that for a family member and I was told they could not do that.

I'm still waiting for JJ to start printing parents names when minors get busted. That will be a step in the right direction.
