The Traveler has a new poll about a Main Street Association for Arkansas City. This idea has been bandied about for at least a couple of years that I know of. It is not something that can be set up by the city (as per Main Street Association rules). It requires a local chairman and board, and has guidelines set up by the national association.
I'm sure most people in Arkansas City would like to see such a thing, but I'm not sure we have anyone willing to do the work. I have heard from one or two that are planning to attend a meeting this spring to learn how to set up a local association. I have not heard of anyone else willing to put out the effort.
If it is going to be done the people and businesses of Arkansas City will have to step up and do it. Nobody else can organize or run it. I'd love to help as a citizen and local business, but I'm up to my ears in everything else. I would like to participate in whatever way I can. The leaders that I have heard from say it will be months before they are able to organize (for various good reasons). Is there anything else that can be done?
