Illegal Immigrants Voting?

Curious, how many of you are confident that the illegals will not be voting in Ark City on Feb. 5th?  Does anyone have a better understanding than I on how this is prevented?  I just noticed that the Democratic party has had record numbers of turnouts for previous primary's and caucases.  Does this mean that US citizens are finally getting off their fannies and see that they have something to lose, or does it mean that the illegal Hispanic population are voting as they have much more to gain.  I noticed that the turn out has not been as good for the Republicans who are not catering to the illegals situation.  Any thoughts?

I am confident in very little when it comes to how our government handles illegal aliens. I'm sure that if the Democrats can find a way to let the illegals vote, they will. After all, the illegals know that if a Dem gets in office, they will all be given immediate amnesty, and all the benefits we've paid for.

I would love to know how illegals voting is prevented in our city as well as nationally. Last time I voted, I noticed that very few people were having their ID's checked.

Maybe Patrick knows something??? (I bet he hates it when we ask him stuff)

Nah, I don't mind when you ask.  It's just that some of the stuff that is asked is beyond my control or information that is already public.

In this case, as you probably already know, voting is controlled by the county.  Before the last election they told us we would have to have ID cards to be able to vote.  I still have mine in my wallet.  I did notice that when they recognize people they don't bother to check ID.  Other than that I really don't know.

The best person to ask would be Karen Brooks, the county clerk.

I know! We have to give him credit, though. He keeps coming back to this site even when some are not very easy on him. Most would just turn their backs and walk away! I hate to admit this, but my husband and I have never voted before. This will be our first time! I was very curious in the process and how it is regulated. Please, Pat can you put our minds at ease?

I still think your best bet is to contact the county clerk for the exact details, but I'll tell you what little I know.

To begin, you can only vote in your own precinct.  Once you register as a voter, usually when you get your drivers license, but you can also do it at the clerk's office in Winfield, you are put on the rolls and given an ID card (or the ID card might be mailed).  On voting day you go in and give your name which is checked against a printout.  This gives details like whether you can vote democratic or republican, which county commissioner you can vote for, which school district and so on.  In the new electronic voting they give you a cassette loaded with the information on which you can vote.  You used the machine to make and lock your selections and you are done.  I'm sure I've missed a step or two, but the main thing is you must be registered to vote early enough to be on the rolls before you are allowed to vote.  Allowed is a strange term to use here, but they have to know what you have the right to vote on.  They have to make sure that you vote only in your school district, only for the county commissioner representing your area.  And in some cases only the party to which you are affiliated.

The only way I can see that illegals could vote is if they register to vote.  Though I'm sure it could be done, I can't see them going out of their way to do it.  I would also think they would avoid it as there is a chance they would be caught.

Patrick
