Hats off to the states abandoning the death penalty. A system like ours does not warrant such punishment! If the judicial system can not get it right, they should not have the authority to end one's life. I don't care how much it deters crime. If one innocent person is put to death that would make us murderers.

your right motherof2, know the right lawyer in this town, pay him enough money and a person could walk away with a slap on the wrist, even if it is a person felony charge!

Re: Capital Punishment

Come on guys, there is a HUGE difference between people getting off because they have social status and money, and someone innocent being put to death. There are SOOO many checks and balances to hurdle through before someone is put to death in this country. Now, I'm sure that in the past, there have been a few innocent people put to death... but in this technological age we live in, with DNA, and forensics at the level they are now, I would find it hard to believe that it would happen today. Could it? Yes... but statistically I'd say the chances are slim.

To take away the death penalty is not the answer.

Think about The Carr brothers in Wichita who tortured and murdered those innocent people. They have now been let off the hook because the death penalty is in question. Even if the courts uphold the death penalty, they will never have to face it. That is wrong. If Justin Thurber is found guilty of Jodi Sanderholm's rape and murder, would you want him sitting in prison for the rest of his life, thinking about (and let's face it... fantasizing about) what he did to her? I would much rather these people were put in the ground, not in prison. They will never be anything even remotely worthwhile to society, and we shouldn't have to pay to keep them around any longer than it takes to put a needle in their arm (which takes far to long anyway in my opinion). If I had my way, they would be killed in a similar fashion to how they killed their victims. Lethal injection is much too nice for these scumbags.

Capital punishment has it's place.

I agree with you on this one SG, with good DNA evidence and all the other that goes with it if it shows the DNA (seminole fluid, blood, hair or tissue) was there, that is going to show that they were at the crime scene. It would have be taken on a case by case basis but for the most part if it was a good solid case with DNA and all the other evidence points to the suspect then YES put them to death. Look at BTK, he has made enough memories killing women that he will be able to fantisize about it for ever.....he needs to go to the place killers go...and that ain't permanantly on death row.......so he can't revel in the memories of the deaths he caused.
