Oh, come on. I know everyone has an opinion about this one. Are we all too afraid to post something?
Ok, how about a compromise...
Negative effects of illegal immigration in Ark City: lower wages, communication problems, their children are taking all spots in 4 year old public preschool and my son was not allowed to attend, they are getting my tax $$$ on public programs not intended for those who do not pay in, *gangs, *rapes, *drugs, *attempted kidnappings, *robberies and oh yeah, that one murder south of town
Postives: They keep Rubbermaid from closing the doors and sending all local jobs to China because they do not have to pay more in wages, the Mexican selection in grocery stores has improved, I'm sure landlords have much more demand for rental houses, and the majority are good people who are just trying to make a better life for their families (WHO CAN BLAME THEM?)
*By the way, I realize that rapes, drugs and robberies were happening before any of them came to our town. Perhaps I just hear about it more due to the subject being so controversial when illegals are involved. Also note, I get most of my information the old fashioned way... good old fashioned gossip. Make of it what you will.
There was an earlier topic on illegal immigrants that is still very active. The other has become quite lengthy. We all might catch up there and continue on here...
Please copy the ordinance, Mayor Barletta's speech and his letter and present these to your city council asking them to enact a similar ordinance.
That which the Federal Government won't do can and should be done by local governments.
IMMIGRATION REPORT CARD
A second course of action has to do with the November Election. Our Congress, both House and Senate, has been derelict for years in its duty to
protect our nation from a foreign invasion. There is a sudden flurry of activity, just before the election, that is meant to cover years of inactivity. By this
sudden flurry of activity many in Congress can show positive immigration action on current bills, hoping we will forget their years of neglect. An
immigration report card for each member in Congress has been prepared by Americans for Better Immigration and may be seen at:
I dont know if it is Legal or ILLEGAL immigrants here....for sure.BUT they are EVERYWHERE....DO DOUBT. It is soo frustrating. Half the time I wonder if I woke up in Mexico????? I have been nearly wrecked three times this week by mexicans (can i say that word? some get offended.but they ARE from MEXICO)driving automobiles with Texas license. They need educated on how to drive here or something..and yes our schools are FULL of immigrant children. The dr.s offices are full of them. I dont know that it will EVER get any better. Sometimes I feel like a foreigner in MY OWN COUNTRY!!!!My two cents.
Has anyone heard the rumor about the car load of "hispanics" who tried to physically pull a young girl from her van while her mother was buying beer in Potter's liquor store? I understand the mother witnessed the event and went running out to stop them. The police were called and the girl said they told her they were going to take her for ice cream. Luckily, the girl had enough sense to fight back. The other day, I witnessed a car load of "hispanics" outside Blockbuster pointing at a young lady inside and saying, "Is that the girl you want?" I heard them say this 2 times to the younger man with them. I must have been obvious about my eavesdropping, as the driver of the car leaned across the cab of his car and glared at me with the scariest look I think I had ever seen. Like he was telling me to "mind my own business". What scares me is that I'm hearing about gangs in our town who want the new members to rape girls for initiation. I hope this is all just gossip! It scares me to death. Parents, do not leave your children unattended in vehicles when you run into stores for a quick stop. It just is not safe anymore! On another occasion, I had 2 "hispanics" follow me around a store speaking Spanish, laughing and getting very excited. They made me feel very uncomfortable. I was with my mother-in-law and she speaks Spanish. I asked her to tell me what they were saying. She said something about being "suave". It was very creepy! I know white men probably do the same thing, but these guys had no qualms about it at all. They even stood at the end of the register waiting for me to get done paying. My mother-in-law came over and grabbed me and we walked to the car together. Arkiegirl, I agree with you. I feel like this is little "Mexico". They are everywhere and I do not feel safe any more. Everyone, please note that my husband is 1/2 hispanic (making my children 1/4). His grandparents came over from Mexico legally! They raised 13 children, were devoted Catholics and refused to let their children speak Spanish in the home. They came to this country to be Americans and expected their children to respect our country. All of them are wonderful people and have nice homes, careers and families. I am very proud of them! I am not prejudice against someone for the color of their skin, but rather their actions. I believe in obeying the law, treating people with respect, working hard, not expecting the government or others to support your family and I speak out against drug abuse very loudly.
It is getting worse every day, and if we don't have the gangs here already, then we soon will. This town used to be a safe place to live. It bothers me to think that my children could be approached or attacked by someone who our government doesn't even know exists. We don't know who is crossing our borders either way.
The ones who come here illegally have no respect at all for our laws, and blatantly thumb their noses at our law enforcement. And if they do commit a serious offense, such as rape or murder, (like the ones at the club on Madison a few years ago) they just run back across the border and disappear.
I'm afraid it will take a terrorist walking across the Mexico border with a suitcase nuke before our GOVERNMENT gets serious about sealing our increasingly pourous border.
Build a wall. Build a Mote. Build two walls with land mines in between! Do whatever it takes to insure that we know who is coming and going from this country.
I began revolution with 82 men. If I had [to] do it again, I do it with 10 or 15 and absolute faith. It does not matter how small you are if you have faith and plan of action. Fidel Castro
I would be interested to hear some more stories from locals on what they have witnessed or experienced. We could have us an internet version of "community watch" right here on this page. I seriously doubt my son was the only one refused for public pre-k that year. Let's throw up some flags here and warn other parents and citizens of what's going on.
