Good idea! I met one of the potential city commissioners and found her to be quite a nice lady. I am hoping these commissioners will be a breath of fresh air. Welcome Dotty Smith and all others elected. I see the dog tying ordinance has slipped in before the new commissioners take effect.Good luck! I am familar with the stretch of street you have shown in your photo. That and many more in that area need some attention. There are many on the west side of town that need paving. I owned property in this area. This will be a good base for ideas for constructive change for the city. Lets go fellow forum writers, this will be interesting.
Well, as I was driving back from the High School today, I noticed that the giant hole in the middle of 12th street, that I had posted a picture of in my earlier post, had been filled with gravel, and I had to wonder if maybe... just maybe, this board actually got some attention. Now, it's entirely possible that they received complaints unrelated to this discussion board, and hurried to satisfy those complaints. BUT, it's also possible that someone read this board, and it brought about some action.
SO, where are the rest of you? I know there are many complaints I have heard on here, and in the temporary forum, over the last year. Add them to the list, and let's see if we can make this town a little better. And speaking of the temporary forum, I think it would be a good idea to use this permanent forum as a place to archive the temporary ones, so that we might go on discussing them. I know there have been a couple of times when our discussions were cut short because the poll forum simply vanished.
If you wish to add pictures to your post, you can use a hosting site, such as imagevenue, or any one of many out there. You just upload a photo to the site, and then copy the link and paste it in your post.
Last year, they was tying up dogs to this Microbus. If a train was comin, those dogs wood be in some trouble. And they should cut the grass down there before someone gets hurt.
OK, I thought this post would be a good one to get the new city commissioners to see just what the people would like them to take notice too. This subject I am posting is tying in with the illegal immigrant post I made earlier. I would like for the city commission and county commission to work with law enforcment to make sure that all immigrants stopped or the ones they have contact with here are here with legal passes or have citizenship. It would be better for us to be known as the city hard on illegals and meth cookers than known for mass illegals and meth cookers and sellers gone wild. To be the county known for making it tough to break the law. Sure we might get some negative PR from bleeding hearts organizations but there will come some good of it. Does anyone want to take to take the first step? Don't say they are working jobs that no one else wants. I rememeber Rodeo meats in the past and those working there didn't have to be bilingual to get a job there. Why do we need to know two languages in order to get a good job in that industry now? There are those who would take the jobs at Creekstone but didn't have the skills, but instead of training county residents they hired outsiders that had skills from other states/counties.
I absolutely agree that this city chould take a hard stance on illegal immigration. Knowing that Cowley is now a "hot spot" for identity theft because of the packing house, Chief Wallace should be on the phone EVERY DAY, begging for ICE to come raid the Creekstone plant. It IS still the job of the police to enforce laws...right?!?! Does anyone know what Ark City officers do when they encounter someone who is here illegally??? I'd LOVE to know the Department's stance on this.
There are several places in town that need to be mowed by the city. This is city property and I would think they would be able to keep up with the grass on those properties. One of the ones I was seeing today is on the drainage ditch behind Jefferson school and Medicalodge East. The grass is knee high or higher on the south side of the ditch. A person I know that lives in that area says it has been mowed once this year. When I had property in town I was told this was unacceptable to have grass that tall in the city limits. Come on City of AC, lets see you keep up with your own rules! Um....OR......I could mow it and send you the bill like you did me.......Just a thought! :numberone:
Here is a forum for all of us, as concerned citizens of Arkansas City, to tell or show our commissioners what problems we see with our city, and to offer any ideas for solutions.
I'll get us started with this. This is a picture I took last week while driving to the High School to pick up my daughter. This is a city street! The people who live on this "street" pay taxes the same as those who live in Timberlane, or Crestwood, or any other neighborhood with a fancy name. It is a disgrace that we still have dirt roads inside the city limits! When it rains, we have to have a four wheel drive to get down a city street.

This will hopefully be a constructive forum, and not disentigrate into name calling, or slander. I leave it to my fellow message board members to list some other problems they see every day around town, and hopefully it will bring some much needed attention to them.
Wow, It took a day or two but the ditch got mowed today. I will be letting you know about more of the city property that needs to be mowed in the future (it's the least I can do). I would think that the city would have a list of thier properties that they just mow on a regular basis. If not, I would suggest getting one. The citizens are watching.
