Mid America Dragway

"Welcome to Mid America Dragway, be safe and have fun!!!"  That's what a person would hear if they were to attend the races.  For years Ark City was without a dragstrip and everyone complained.  We needed the strip back, it raised revenue and it was something to do on the weekend.  Every weekend a person can find me and other racers out having a blast, being with friends and family.  One thing is missing, the spectators.  Where did all the people go who wanted the track back so much???  Maybe it's too hot, and it is, but there is an air conditioned building.  Possibly you don't like using the porta-potties, no need to worry, there are air conditioned indoor restrooms.  The track has come a long way since the old days, but no one wants to come out and see.  They would rather ask someone about it and go aboout their merry way.  Do the citizens of Ark City not realize that without commmunity support a business will fail.  And what happens when it fails, everyone complains.  The track is there for the community and the racers, but yet people from the community don't see the need to come out.  I don't work for the track, I just support it.  I am also tired of telling people if they want to know what it's like to come on out.  It's good family fun, cheaper than going to the movies and a lot louder.  I also support the 77 Speedway south of town.  Russell Graves, and the crew, have done some good things with what used to be nothing.  Yeah, their races are a little more exciting than the straightaway stuff, but it's still good family fun.  For those who complain that there is nothing to do in Ark City, well just look around.  The community has two different tracks, one dragstrip and one dirt track, located less than ten miles away.  Mid America holds a race every Saturday night and Sunday during the day.  77 Speedway holds a figure 8 race once a month and a few demolition derby's throughout the season.  As you can see just between those two places is more than enough good family fun for the summer.

I definatly agree that we need to see more people from the community supporting the race track. I personally love to spend time there on the weekends.  I think that after the problems of the past with uncertain scheduals and all the problems with zoning people became confused and disinterested.  With those problems behind I think we need more advertisement to the general public.  The race track is in the best shape its ever been, hats off to those running it!
