First of all, let me say that nobody forces the women who are employed by Hooters to work there. They are proud young ladies who work hard for their money.

   There's no denying that the establishment is using sex appeal to draw in customers and make a buck. They admit it without shame. Their website claims, "Hooters does have an owl inside its logo and uses an owl theme sufficiently to allow debate to occur over the meaning's intent." The women aren't wearing tight Hooters tank tops as a testament to the coolness of owls.

   For whatever reason people go to Hooters it is their own decision. But there's no doubt about it... people will go there. Alot of people. Not only from Ark City, but from alot of communities in the area. It will no doubt bring revenue to AC.

   I can appreciate your views, however conservative, but you seem naive in your thinking. I can't see how any new, lucrative business would be bad for the city. A lot of posts on these forums are concerning how to bring more revenue and people to town.  I sure don't think Hooter's is the answer, but it's not a problem either.

Regarding the comment on the morals of this state and this city. I believe it is a bigger problem we are having than just allowing a Hooters in this city. First of all I am not going to try to be judgemental on what others want to see or not see. However, I  believe that part of our problem with our moral fiber lies in what we see in our lives on a regular daily basis. Anyone that has cable television has access to some of the most lude and degrading matieral for men and women. As the guy before me says "sex sells". It always has. Even in biblical times. To me this is a ongoing problem. Being a female, I am not one to want to go to a restraunt and see a scantily clad female serving my dinner. But I am game to see a good restraunt with a tasty menu with a good price, so I am going to remain open minded. If the prices are right, and the food is great I will be a patron, and my male counter part may just enjoy the scenery a lot more than I. I am certian I will not see anything more in a Hooters than I see on cable TV, or a trip to Wal Mart, or a drive down Summit on a  summers day. And I can choose not to go to Hooters....Cable is beamed into my home and may be difficult to shield the children from. So if it will bring jobs to some college students that may need employment for the next school year, I suppose she can wear her tank top to work instead of the pool and at least make some money doing it.

Great,how many of our young daughters will be getting jobs there for some slobbering old man to look at. .....while his wife refuses to go there to eat with him.Because she doesnt want to see women exploited either.

WHY do we have to have places in Ark city like this? Why cant we get a Chili's or Applebees? Why not a nice FAMILY restraunt?????

I always wondered how many women get turned down for a job there because they dont "qualify"???? IF ONLY there was a HONEST poll....I bet many are turned down because they do not qualify....and I don't mean cause they cant carry a tray of 'BUFFALO WINGS" either.Face it.if you have the "hooters" as men call them...I bet you could get the job.

If the morals are so high in Ark City and Cowley County, why does that area have such an unusually high teen pregnancy ratio? Just wondering.

You know what is hilarious? People who look down at the rest of society from their high horses are often the same people who are empatically religious and attend church weekly. What I find so amazing about these people, is that they preach and JUDGE and bitch about others. Now correct me if Im wrong, but doesnt the WORD teach not to pass judgement upon other lest ye be judged???? They should really look within themselves and deal with the unhappiness within, instead of focusing on others.

Its like the same people who say choose life not an abortion. IF you dont think people should have an abortion, then you personally shouldnt. If a hooters happens upon ARK City, and you dont want to stare a young (tanned) girls and eat delicious wings and oysters, then DONT GO. If you think people shouldnt buy alcohol on Sundays, then you personally shouldnt buy alcohol on Sundays.

 

If you want to shun big buisness establishments from Ark city, as well as jobs (lest you forget young girls arent the only ones who work at Hooters, they employ cooks, bartenders, hostesses, prep crew, bussers) not to mention stimulation of the local economy. Maybe some young person will work at the said Hooters instead of hanging with his-her freinds and developing a meth addiction which they have to break into your home to finance!

Sorry to disappoint, but I did some research and found there are no franchising opportunities available in the United States.  Nice try.  So if you want to see some Hooters the closest place is Wichita...or Sadie’s Ladies.

Oh, come on.... just because casinos, a possible Hooters or anything else comes our way, where do you get the idea that these things cause moral decay?  I fear more  Arkansas City losing its entire identity due to the constant influx of illegal aliens....yes, illegal aliens.... in the city.

  Small towns are dying everywhere... it`s necessary to keep new things coming in to keep the artery from being severed and sustain the city`s life.  Please, stop buying into the bull of the religious conservatives and join the majority. Local investors have bought a franchise and plan to open a H**TERS restaraunt on the north side of town. This company is based solely on the use of the female body to sell thier products. Plans call for the completion by the end of November. I urge all to show your morals and respect for women by not dining at this establishment.      AKansasan
