I am not quite sure what has happened to the Recall post, probably some heat from the Jack boot thugs, but in any case rumours are flying again on the street and its time for justice to prevail.
* Do you think it is Ethicaly correct for a Mayor or any City commissioner to have a business that contracts with the city for profit?
* Should management that works to push jobs towards Commissioners also be held responsible
As for your question regarding is it ethically correct for a mayor or city commissioner to do work for the city for profit. I believe it is ethcially correct IF the city has put the job up for bid, and the commissioner or his/her business is qualified to do the work. I believe it would be UNETHICAL if the commissioner use his/her position to find out bids in order to underbid to get the job. The commissioner should not be allowed to vote to accept any of the bids if his/her business is vying for a job. Do you believe we should give the job to an out of town business that would take the money out of the community just prevent a commissioner from getting a legitimate job? This is where citizens must trust their city manager to handle such bids legally and ethically.
"Ethics" or at least the appearance of, does not apply to the current commission. During the July 15 commission meeting, they accepted the return [deed to the City by CoVista Hospital Group] of the 68 acres from the Patterson Park estate . The "proposed" hospital site. As soon as this was done, it was stated that as the property now belonged to the City, no further public hearings were required, a ordinance was passed levying the special assessments for [work previously done or to be done, not quite clear how many deals have taken place on this alleged hospital effort]. The assessments total $102,717.78. Is one to assume that CoVista Hospital [a group of doctors, dodged these costs which one would assume would have been their responsibility? The city then passed ordinance 2008-07-4154, the next step to obtain bond indebtedness for these assessments. Also interesting to note, the Traveler was at this meeting and did not mention a word about it in the paper or on JJ's blog. I am sure theres more to this and it was done by the book. But it sure doesn't pass the smell test. [Details are available on the Citys web site, under documents section, commision packet for July 15]
