What a touching letter! I hope this lady can find this young man and his cowboy church. I agree, AC may have its share of problems...but the grass is not always greener elsewhere.

I know it will come off as being negative, but didn't this happen outside of Ark City, and wasn't the guy from Cedar Vale? Why, then, does everyone keep saying that it's Ark City that is great?

Just sayin'!

This probably does not belong here and a "disclaimer" is required. [I have no interest in the old WalMart site, don't even know who owns it.] However speaking of Ark City pride [and the lack there of] drive by and look at the mess folks left on the parking lot during the fireworks event. Ark City will not change,  because a obvious  number of it's inhabitants [can't call them citizens] have no "PRIDE". Note:  Don't think one person could have left that much fireworks trash.

Believe me, I understand. I'm frustrated every Sunday morning driving thru downtown and seeing the trash on the streets. (Mr. John Bryant used to pick it up every Sunday a.m., bless him for that)

No doubt, it is frustrating when people trash the streets. (try driving thru the county or state roads and look around)

It's ok for you to post your comment here, but, just a thought, it might get seen by more people if you would send it in a Letter to the Editor. If you want. (there is probably lots of people who feel the way we do about it, and it just might raise some awareness)

I feel your pain, man.

My husband and son drove down third street picking up aluminum cans last week. After being gone for 3 days, they were very amazed at how many of those cans returned. I see it at the baseball park, too. People (adults) pull their tailgates up to the fence to watch the game. When they leave, you'll find a pile of trash sitting on the ground three feet from a trash can. Can you say LAZY????

I spent a summer working at the ballpark (I assume you're talking about the one down in Sleeth, but i guess the city ballpark is possible although i know that they (BDC) pick up trash after the game) and we put tons of trash cans out so that the furthest possible walk was like 5 feet, and still had to spend most of our time picking up trash. About 80% of that job was taking care of other peoples trash.

So let me see here.
We should just set quietly by and suffer from all the slobs, who throw trash and tear up the facilities, because it might bring attention to the problem.

If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem.

the fact that your complaining is showing your a bigger part of the problem than you may realise.
Be proactive not distructive, you are the one who complained so much about people driveing on the dike that the city shut down the arkansas river for recreation....

OK maybe it wasnt you but it was self richous over zelous religous freeks, the same ones who are chaseing our youth from this city with their better than thou attitudes

bitching about it does not make you part of a solution, we must forgive others for their short commings and set examples for those we lead,,, moaning and growning only adds salt to the wound, and creates problems for those who can think constructively on progress

I know what you are trying to say about being proactive and part of the solution. I spent several days with my boys and other volunteers picking up trash in the local parks. Hey, I am trying to help. I hope others who see our actions will "pay it forward", so to speak. I am going to assume that people who leave their trash for others to pick up never had anyone set a good example for them?

Still, it's hard not to see their actions as selfish and lazy when you are the one having to pick up after them. It's hard not to point these things out in hopes that someone will think next time.

if you chose to pick up after them do it because you want to, not for any other reason!!
As a leader you cannot assume that your actions will be repeated by others, you must be constant and not quit when you find you are the only one who gives a damn.

If you chose to set example, remember the results are not immediate, nor are they always followed with others thinking the same way as you.

Leadership is a lonely path.

Never confuse Religous hog wash from imoral Gay libritarions as leadership, they have a habbit of tring to make it appear as such.

Never condem others because of their lack of effort in your dream.

Do what you belive in and if its right they will follow
