RE: A great day for gun rights!

I can't believe that it took them this long to make such a judgement. They got this one right.

I'm staying out of DC, Compton and Baltimore, unless I'm wearing body armor.

I've been in a gun shop supermarket in a big city that had hundreds of (maybe even a thousand) guns on display and had no hunting rifles or really anything you would call legitimate guns, but had 18 inch short shotguns, (maybe eighty to a hundred of them on display), chinese converted military rifles with the tommygun style magazines and maybe 2 hundred displayed handguns, all ranging in price from about 40 to 60 dollars. The speakers were blaring rap music and it was obvious that this place catered to urban psycho nutcases and drug dealers, and they seemed to be doing a booming business. Once inside, I was concerned about going back out into the parking lot.

Really the issues in the big cities are "very" different from the ones in the rural midwest. There needs to be something done to control the warzones in the big cities. I know of some neighborhoods the cops won't even drive through. They say it is too dangerous. Maybe if we figure how to stabilize Iraq, we could give it a try in DC.

The option is not restricting gun ownership, because that is one of our rights, and I am one of those who takes preserving all of our rights very seriously, but there must be a solution for aggressive idiots shooting others with saturday night specials or converted machine guns while playing cops and robbers with drugs.

S.G.: got any suggestions?

I think maybe insurance. Like with cars. If found using a gun with no liability insurance, you get similar punishment to driving a car without insurance; a fine and confiscate (and destroy) the popgun. Multiple times, then jail.

And idiots can't get insurance because no underwriter will issue it. If someone gets injured or killed, then there is an insurance claim to pay for damages and hospitalization. Right now, these idiots get off Scot free.

Responsible people wouldn't have problems. It wouldn't be the gun that was insured or registered, etc, it would be the person. More like a CC permit, backed up with insurance.

With or with out gun rights the criminals will still have the guns. They don't care what the law has to say.

Wouldn't it be difficult to steal a gun without first having a gun? Just wondering

I agree with citizens having guns.....and (SG) I believe citizens can now also own full-auto guns, no length on shot guns, and silencors.  How cool is this.  The problem with two of the three is no more full auto guns and silensors are being made but the citizens cache supply for these items has been opened up so only a limited number exist for citizens.  This does not include the military and law enforcement productions which are still be made but are not open to citizens.  What is going to keep these items out of reach of the common "street thug" is a silencor is running about $8000 and a full auto rifle starts about $20,000 and they can only be purchased through a Level 3 Federal Firearms Licenced salesman.  I am not exact on this information but it is what I have been told through my gun carrying friends.

I think citizens should be allowed to carry guns but I also have a very stronge belief in gun safety.  People need to know what they have and the potential danger a gun can cause if it is used as a toy.  GUNS ALONE ARE NOT DANGEROUS!  PEOPLE ARE.  For those that say "guns kill people" I disagree.  That is like saying my keyboard is to blame for me not being able to spell.  A human has to take responsiblity for their actions, either bad grammer or bad judgement on the use of a gun.

There is a story I heard, maybe an urban myth, so I'm not vouching for the accuracy, but it has something to do with gun control, so here goes:

There was a person who had a gun and shot a man in Reno, Nevada just to watch him die. Even though that is a horrible story and the man went to prison, his life was filled with remorse and regret. Apparently every time he heard a train whistle, he would hang his head and cry.

It was not his only gun offense:

He said that early one morning when he was making the rounds, he took a shot of cocaine and he shot his woman.
He said he tried to run, but as is the case, he ran too slow, and they overtook him and arrested him down in Juarez (Mexico).

They imprisoned him with a term of 99 years in a California prison.

I hear stories like this and I wonder if psychological screening, drug tests or a longer gun waiting period would have prevented these senseless and heinous crimes.

What do you think, S.G.?

I am familiar with that case. Seems to me the lady had it comin'. After all, she told him he was her daddy, but she had five more (if I remember correctly).

Besides, I don't think the gun store owner should have sold a gun to that guy, since he was dressed all in black. Only bad guys dress all in black!

Yeah, they should probably follow their instincts if something doesn't seem right. I don't see no reason why a store couldn't use some kindof excuse , such as the computer being down, to refuse a sale. Probably they would go some where else, but still it might help. I personally saw a guy that got turned down when he was trying to buy some cold medicine, but he was nervous and antsy, so you could tell he was on meth. Any way the pharmacist told him that he could not buy it because he had a state id and not a drivers license.

It is a really misogynistic comment to say she had it coming. You know, that is the real tragedy with gun violence. Some people will support the person with the gun and state that the victim was to blame. You may say that she was philandering, but I understand she went to Jackson only because she was hotter than a pepper sprout. That is certainly nothing to shoot her for and blaming the victim is no solution.
