Why do we not have a law against public nudity? That seems odd.

SG,
Knowing yo are a former cop, I am suprised you have used newscow as your sole source of evidence against the Ark City Police officers involved. You have already determined they are wrong with out knowing if there is other evidence of the incident that newscow did not print.
How many aressts did you make that may have been questioned by others on the outside that did not have ALL the information?
I am sure you wanted the people you served to trust your judgement, I think you could return the favor and wait for all info and evidence before you hang them.

MY point exactly! I don't know if anything was left out of the newscow report, and you do not know either. I'll ask you again did all facts of all arrests you made always get published in the paper. Usually the activity reported to the media are a simple report of activity. They do not try the case in the media reports. It appears that you are willing to accept the newscow as judge and jury. Sad day for all of us when we start evaluating our local officers from news articles. The true judge should be the judical system we have in place. It may not be perfect but many have protected and served and died in the pursuit of our justice system. You slapped your fellow brothers and sisters in blue in the face. Guess I just judged you! But according to your standards I don't need any other information.

mc, he (sg) has got a good point that more than likely a plea and a fine will be given even without the judge reading the whole report or even the city att, they tend to look at the officers of this town as being perfect judges at the cite of an incedent and side with them. If this man does not know the law one tenth of his next months wage will be taken out his families mouth because a officer did not apply the law in this case just his own rulinghmm

ps. scared to think you had a good thought on this one (1) time SG, made me fall over the chairwink

There is no need to us foul language, like in your buck *** nekkid comment.  Just say buck nekkid. The other work was not needed.  Keep it clean. You shouldn't even have to ask why it was edited.

After reading the report, and the statute, it would appear to me that we don't see all the evidence rather just a quick report. I would venture to bet that when approached by the police having already been angry at his girlfriend he took his frustrations out on the police and probably used profane language at them. We see this on cops all the time, rarely they are arrested solely for that charge but I have seen it. On the other hand I think what SG is trying to say is, couldn't they have given him the ride home with out the charge or a verbal warning and explanation why he should not act the way he might have. No need to charge a man just to be charging him with something.
P.S. to webmaster. As a christian I thank you for your attention to detail and keeping this forum clean.

SG I thought you said in an earlier post that if someone, who is not a police officer, is present they can be the victim. Maybe the person who reported it was still there and was the victim of disorderly conduct. Guess nobody on here will really know since nobody has all the facts. Stop making presumptions about good, honest people trying to do there job.

You don't get it. You still believe that the newscow article and the man being naked or not is the only reason for the arrest. None of us know if there were other reasons. You seem to think you know everything about everything. Maybe we should be suspect of your comments, because you seem to have an axe to grind with the ACPD. I just think the ACPD officers should not be judged by a newscow or other media article. both the suspect and officers deserve their day in court by people who will have access to all the evidence. If the officers are wrong they should be retrained and/or face concequences for their actions.

I agree......let the naked guy sit in the park in piece.....the Police should not bother him......kids go play on the slipper slide so you don't bother the legally sitting naked guy!  Give me a break.  If the Ark City Police Department let the naked guy stay in the park I am sure your post would have judged them for that also!  Good work ACPD for making my parks safe since naked people should not be passed out on a park bench in public places!

Hey Barbie,
I find this interesting  that you are praising the ACPD on keeping YOUR parks safe when you LIVE IN WINFIELD!  I am not seeing why you would be worried about a naked guy sitting in the park in AC when up north some people dress up every year like a girl and parade around in high heels! In some circles that is almost as strange as the the naked guy in the park!
As far as judgement goes, that is something that cops do on a daily basis. SO is it just the right of a cop to have judgement and no one else? It is a free country MS Bilt! Get over yourself!biggrin

Hey Danny,  (S23246G)
Why are you so critical of the police department's actions with the naked dude, especially since your ex-mother in law lives right across the street from the park.  I thought you would be supportive of enforcement there.  I don't know, I'm just sayin'.

because, my rude friend, regardless of the old saying, rules (ie: laws) are meant to be followed. Period. Regardless of who is affected, and how important someone is (or isn't). If they (you) do things by the rules, I would be the first to jump up and defend them, as I have on many occassions, but when they break the rules, they deserve to be busted for it.

Maybe what we need is a local watchdog group to monitor the activity of the Police and Courts here in Ark City.

And since I now know that the webmaster allows outing people on this board, I will have to start digging. MMMMWAHAHAHA (mine is an evil laugh).

And just so the rest of you know, there are only two groups of people that still call me that. One is the people I graduated High School with when I see them on the street, and the second are the folks at the ACPD.

Stuck here,

I can only assume since the only posts you have made are to stand up for the PD (and since you called my "Danny", which no one else does), that you must be one of them, which is fine.  I was one myself...

I did my very best to always do things by the law.  When things are done wrong, ie: pulling people over with no probable cause, etc, etc, then that is not only wrong, but criminal.  You should know that and live by the law, not cut corners to do your job.  That is how people's rights get violated, and that is how officers and departments get sued.

Hopefully you are one of the good ones.  I know there are a lot of good guys on the force who try to do things by the rules, but there are bad ones too.  When I was there, one of the worst offenders of peoples civil rights was routinely given awards and honors because he got the most DUI arrests (Not convictions mind you, just arrests.. any defense attorney worth a damn could have gotten them off easy) because he routinely stopped people with no probable cause to do so.  When I talked to my superiors about it, they told me that they knew, and that the chief knew, but that it was tolerated because of the number of arrests he got.  I was also told that the officer had been caught with a few hundred dollars that had disappeared off of an arrested person, that turned up in the officer's wallet, but nothing was ever done about it.  That officer is no longer on the job (thank god), but that was just some of what I saw go on.  I myself was forced to stop someone who had left a house we were about to do a warrant on, but the warrant hadn't been signed yet.  I did it, but felt bad about it then, and still do to this day.  I should have refused, but then I would have been out of a job, and at that time I could not afford that.

When I interviewed for the job, Sean Wallace (a Lt. at the time) asked me if I'd ever heard the expression that those who fight monsters must be careful that they don't become monsters.  I had.  In fact, I lived by it.  Too bad they didn't practice what they preached.

Sean is a very good guy.  I sincerely hope that since he has taken over, that the department has become better about such things... but when I read an article like the one I was referencing in my post, I have my doubts.  Maybe there was more to the story.... maybe I jumped to conclusions, looking for the worst.  If so, prove it.  I will gladly recant if you can tell me the facts AND they amount to disorderly conduct.  The balls in your court.

I know the job, and the thankless situation that goes with it.  I know it is a hard job, and that you can't always get the bad guys by following the rules.  But when you circumvent the rules, you are just as bad as the bad guys.

I am a firm believer in the public knowing their rights, and knowing when their rights are violated.  I have posted in the past about search and seizure law, and how to avoid becoming a victim of police who overstep their authority.  Maybe if they know that they are being watched, then it will keep them honest.  Maybe a watchdog group or blog is the way to go.  I'll think about that.

S23246G.....

what a wonderful idea! Another idea could be answering questions about peoples rights when people in this town have no idea on the scope of laws while dealing with the police. We had several instances in our family that had been violated even though we were not the bad guy! We knew that we could push a lawsuit if we wanted too, but I really felt that was not the right course of action because of only a few that were either was trying to cover up or just plain didn't have a clue what they were doing! I would dare to guess the latter. I agree that their is some good guys on the force. They were right on top of things when we really needed them!
