I love to sit around and listen to live music! I'm a big fan of Brown's free concerts, too. Where is it and when? I guess I will look for the sign. I think it is a wonderful idea to develop the area around the river(s). They are what make this city unique. Just have to watch for those flood waters! I once went to an economic development meeting in Dexter and learned of a small town in Texas which put up a make shift stage and dance floor downtown and started having concerts (I think once a week.) They used kerosene lanters for lighting! Now it is a big deal and lodging is everywhere. Everyone with a spare room now has a "bed and breakfast" to accomodate the visitors. By the way, the rustic atmosphere is what drew the crowd. I would love to see something like that in AC!
I rencently saw a sign south of town in regard to a upcoming festival in our city. I was unaware that one was in the workings. I went to James Jordans blogspot and found some more information on this festival. I find it to be a good positive idea to our area. I see that there is some local talent and some imported talent as well proforming. And I too share James' idea that a festival on the river would be an exellent idea. I read where they were having problems getting electicity to the area and found some generators to use for that. Wouldn't it be nice if there could be electricity poles placed in that area for things such as this. I know this place could be used for a festival, it could be used for many more really large events. Kudos to James for working on this festival and making it work.
James , I am glad that you have gotten this togather. We have not had someone try to pull this community togather like this since Brian Donaldson had his Unity concerts years ago when he pulled local, area and state talents into the Scott gym uptown. The ideal of bringing all sorts of music togather is forward thinking for this community. I hope you have the support of our city governing body, cowley music dept. and the ACHS jazz band also so that this will become an Annual event .
