On a positive note, I am seeing the girls watering the flowers down town and the flowers are starting to look pretty good. They are using the truck and the tank on the back and I see that we finally have a plan. Thank you whoever, for implimenting a plan and seeing it through!
I agree with Jerry on this one, too bad. With all the hub bub about "who is going to water the flowers", Phantom Planter,it is a shame your hard work was not appreciated by all.
Phantom planter appreciated by some
LETTER to the EDITOR In the June 22 Traveler was a picture of a downtown flower pot that had been planted by the Phantom Planter(s) because it was an empty pot; another one a half block away was also planted at the same time. Two empty pots replanted by volunteers at their expense, time and up keep.
Now their work has been removed and the pots replanted to look like all the others. What a slap in the face to the Phantom Planter(s).
It just shows the mentality of the city on volunteerism. You can only do something for the city if they say you can and do it their way.
Why did it make a difference that the flowers were not the same as the others? Where is the artistic eye in that decision? They weren't dead and they were being watered by a watering spike to get them established, but out they went.
I even bet the plants were not replanted somewhere else either, thrown away with the watering spikes too. It's a small detail in city managing but a very visible one.
So, Phantom Planter(s), I am sorry your fun project is no more. Shame on Ark City for allowing it to happen. Only two weeks to enjoy your input to downtown.
Hats off to the phantom planter! Instead of just talking about it, they took action. It is a shame to see the flowers tossed, but I'm glad to see the pots are being tended now. It seemed that a lot of people were trying to complicate a very simple problem. Also, hats off to the city gardener. They look great! Keep up the good work.
