Ark City Traveler doesnt support Childhood Cancer

I attended a fundraiser this weekend called the Show and Shine, or something like that at Green's Farm. It was a car and motorcycle show, and concert. My understanding was that the organizer had lost a child to cancer, and was planning to have the show every year to help other children suffering from cancer. Local musicians, as well as at least one band from Wichita were among those who attended.

THEY ENDED UP PLAYING TO ABOUT 30 PEOPLE!!!

I myself saw ZERO advertisement, and ZERO mention of this great benefit in our newspaper. The only way I found out about it was because I happen to be related to two of the musical guests, otherwise I would have been completely oblivious, as was most of Ark City.

As someone who has lost a few loved ones to cancer, I do think it's a shame that the Traveler can't find it's way into helping with this cause. Hopefully it's not an issue of money, and meeting their bottom line. With some of the CRAP that makes it to the front page, you'd think that a concert with some of Wichita and Ark City's best local bands would have made the news.

We get out to lots of stuff.
Often people do not let us know about things, and then they get upset that we are not there.
If we had received any notice at all, we would probably have done a story on that concert and sent a photographer to it.
People need to let us know about things they are doing.

Its no wonder to my family why Ac Travler isnt that good of paper! They dont care about much of anything that happens in our town they'd rather take stories from the AP then write their own stories!

More often than not, if someone contacts us in a CIVIL manner, and can act in an adult fashion, we try to at least get a notification in the paper.
When someone calls in an abusive manner, I feel very little interest in helping them.
You don't want to encourage that type behavior by letting people think it works.

As I have posted elsewhere. We ran a story and picture about your event coming up. We sent a reporter, no ne was there. So I am not even sure the event actually happened.
We never received all these faxes you say you sent.
The only communication from you since we ran a story about your event, that we have received, has been phone messages that sounded like a pre-teen temper tantrum.

If you will look at the paper, we probably average one or two AP stories on the front a week. The rest of the front page is ALL local news.
We have lots of local news in the paper.

The Relay for Life, for cancer victims, got a lot of coverage. Did you ever wonder why that was?

So, the webmasters are joining in now huh? How about putting your input in red font so we can tell where the other person's opinion ends and yours begins? Or put it in a post of your own, instead of editing someone else's post to say what you'd like to say. It would make understanding it easier for us Ark City graduates. Thanks.

furiousfuriousfuriousfuriousfuriousOnce again we contacted the AC traveler to cover a story on Childhood Cancer and yet again we get nothing from them!  This is the third time that we have contacted them as to a story on childhood cancer and they have yet to do anything to help support the cause!  We contacted them last September to get it out to the public that Sept is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month.  And the great EDITOR could only stutter and tell me that he would send someone out....no one ever came!  And yet again in March I contacted him for our St. Baldricks Day fundraiser....he again said he's be there...he again didnt show!  So like a fool we contact again IN HOPES that our lemonade fundrasier could be put in the paper....yet again we were told someone would be out....and guess what NO ONE SHOWED!

Come one someone has to care about kids with cancer!  I'm sure people would rather read about a local childhood cancer victim standing out side with a sign trying to get people to stop for lemonade is a better story on the front page then a story on the new license plates!  Its no wonder to my family why Ac Travler isnt that good of paper!  They dont care about much of anything that happens in our town they'd rather take stories from the AP then write their own stories!

Dear Mr MASTER

I spent day and nite for two months working on St. Baldrick's Day and for yo u to say that it never happend is a slap in my face.  Yes the foundation is real and no the money didnt go to our local kids because theres nothing for the local kids.  But its funny that KSN covered our event yet you never came.  Christopher and his family was here as well as a shift of fire dept and cowley county jail staff!  You missed when Christopher shaved Carl Whatley's head and then shaved off what was left of his hair that hadnt fallen out from the chemo!

You seem to be attacking me only for comments made on here.  I am only responsible for comments under Fairy Tales.  Yes press releases were sent out to all media in our area.  Never again will I contact you to cover any event done by me and that is your loss.  All my family wants to do is bring attention to a cause that doesnt get much attention!  You are making my efforts seem pointless and are setting the tone for others to not want to make a diffrence!  You should ashamed!
