RE: Illegal workers

Why is the area known for meth and illegal immigrants?  Do breath tests on high school kids and alcohol stings lead to stopping drugs and illegal immigrants?

Didnt I hear that the state is cutting off medical care and assistance to immigrants unless they have the proper identification????OH HOW WONDERFUL ??? We work and pay taxes and they get a free ride in medical care??? THAT is NOT fair and SHOULD stop. I have family members whom are working hard to pay their medical care out of pocket themselves because they make a hundred dollars (GROSS PAY-not bring home pay) too much a month to qualify. WHAT HORSE CRAP. They are in debt up to eyeballs. Then you see immigrants come in stores with the food stamps with gold chains and driving nice trucks...hmmmmm....go figure. Or in drs offices with health cards....something is not right. Maybe that will come to a halt.
I dont know all the details of immigration...but something doesnt seem right to me if you have the finest clothes, shoes, jewelry draped(even the children and babies) and Chevrolet pickup trucks yet you NEED FREE medical care and food stamp assistance????????

I'm glad that you posted on this article Redd Rover.  The whole subject of ILLEGAL immigration angers me to no end.  Now it seems that we have become a "Hotspot" for illegals stealing the identities of others.  GREAT.  Not only do they break into our homes and vehicles, but they steal our identities too.

But, as long as our government in general, and the Bush andministration in particular, ignore the problem of  ILLEGAL immigration for their own benefit, it will only continue to get worse.  Democrats WANT illegals to be given amnesty so they will have more voters, because immigrants histirically vote Democrat.  Bush and his cronies WANT to give amnesty to illegals because they will work for a much lower wage than most Americans, and this saves the big companies money that can go into their (already too fat) pockets, no matter the harm it does to their country.  In a matter of years, America will be predominantly hispanic.  Remember the uproar when the Star Spangled Banner was sang in Spanish?  Now imagine never hearing it at all, because that is the direction this country is headed in.

The only solution is to elect government officials who feel, the same as the majority of the American people, that ILLEGAL immigration is a blight on this country, and should be stopped immediately, no matter the cost.  Just such a person is running for President in 2008, but you won't hear much about him on the major news outlets.  His name is Tom Tancredo.  Take a look at his website at http://www.teamtancredo.com/  He wants to close our borders for the security of our country, and is running for President on this platform (among others).  Please join me in getting his name to the masses, as our media outlets are much too liberal to do so.  Only by changing our government can we stop this epidemic.

AND, I pray that our local packing plant DOES get raided, and that every illegal alien in this town gets deported.  AND that the company itself, and it's CEOs get prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.

ILLEGAL still means ILLEGAL in my book, and I'm appalled that this article previously posted actually tries to garner sympathy for these poor law breakers.  Can you imagine an article speaking to how the meth dealers are coping with having stores not sell chemicals in bulk anymore?  Or how pedophiles are preparing for the possibility that they might run into Chris Hanson next time they seduce a 12 year old on the internet?  I have ABSOLUTELY ZERO sympathy for criminals like these, and neither should you.

Okay, now I'm mad again.  I have always tried to be a compassionate person, but enough is ENOUGH!  This BLIGHT is destroying our country, AND OUR POLITICIANS ARE LETTING IT!  Have they no foresight?  Can't they see where this is leading?  I predicted years ago, when the packing house was first up for consideration, that we would be facing the problems we now face.  I have seen it in other places.  Now we are in the thick of it, with no way out.  The city council members who approved it should be so proud of themselves.  But they've probably moved away by now to a place with less crime.

Here is a good video that will help you to see what our future holds.  Powerful stuff... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n7WJeqxuOfQ  It has a runtime of 10 minutes, but it's very enlightening.

And don't forget to visit http://www.teamtancredo.com/ and see if you can help spread the word.

sounds like a sob story i am reading here, what are you doing to change things, are you active in letting your leaders know you are against this activity? are you attending city council meetings and addressing your opinion on this issue?
Many of like to cry and whine, but what are you doing as an american to make a differance.

your country is being invaded by the Mexican's and like it or not it will continue untill people understand they can make a differance, your city has the power to inforce and make laws reguarding the legality of its illegal population

the problem is you live in a community that has a mind set that they want to be seen as do gooders,( that is a Bush Phrase)
I highlight the Phrase be seen as,,,, this area being the center of the bible belt is extreemly Hipacritacle of others, examples of this are such things as the tight lid our communty keeps on our ability to chose our own recreation, whiter it be a night club our youth can socialise in or perhaps a open street cafe where one can have a drink and braughworst and watch the trafic go by.
We all want to have a nice friendly place that people want to come to but our confused ideas of morals will never allow it

You have no idea what I am doing to try to voice my opinion of this horrible invasion. I have been writing to my representives and the Governor to let them know just how I feel about the invasion of these illegals. The big problem is there are those that don't really care where the money comes from that is spent in their stores or in their cities. Greed is the problem. I can tell you why no one is doing anything about it at the city level. Because the money they make, illegal or not, is spent here in Arkcity. Most of the city commissioners are business people in this area and benifit from the money the illegals bring in.....legal or not, do they care? The illegals money spends just as good as the legals do. However, while the illegals are making the money in this county they are also using the county services, driving illegaly, no insurance, ect......You may think that was a sob story, but at least I posted something in regard to this situation. Others at least know where I stand on it. Writing my representives is at least better than talking about it at the local coffee shop!!!

Yes Saveacity, I know that my city has the power to enforce those laws in place at the federal and state levels. But at the city level they have to deal with the city management. And if the city managment thinks that it might cause ripples and the illegals or legals for that matter, would move away, there would be a significant loss of revenue for them. At the county level I have not ever known them to detian illegals to be sent back to mexico. They are just turned loose. I know. I have seen Troopers at the state level take them to jail for this and commend them. They are at least enforcing the laws. To knowingly KNOW that vehicles you stop may possibly have illegals in them and knowingly turn your head is a crime in itself. Local law enforcment needs to snap out of it and make it not so enticing for illegals to be here. State goverment needs to make it more difficult for illegals to use state programs if there is no proof of citizenship. (and I don't mean the proof they buy down at the border) Just as the citizens need to stand up and voice their opinions to every level of goverment. Instead of being sheep.

Workers at meatpacking towns preparing for raids By THE ASSOCIATED PRESS DODGE CITY, Kan. (AP) -- Frightened by raids last year at six Swift & Co. plants, illegal immigrants in the nation's meatpacking towns are preparing for their possible arrest. For years, immigrant rights groups had been confident the meatpacking giants were so powerful that immigration agents would never raid them. But since the Dec. 12 sweeps at Swift plants in six states, immigrant advocacy groups have been holding workshops, teaching undocumented workers how to prepare for their arrests by doing such things as drawing up legal documents so someone could care for their children and handle their financial affairs. In addition, the United Food and Commercial Workers union has printed a bilingual immigration rights kit it plans to distribute nationwide to workers in the coming weeks. The kit includes practical information, legal documents and sample letters.''We want to make sure they (immigration officials) don't take advantage of our people,'' said Martin Rosas, secretary-treasurer for UFCW in Dodge City.Take advantage of their people??? Like their people aren't taking advantage of our system? Like they are taking advantage of the working class people of our state? Among those making preparations since attending a workshop is the family of a 43-year-old man who works under a false identity at the National Beef plant in Liberal. Two of his four children, ranging in age from 4 to 18, were born in the United States, where he has lived on an off for 21 years. His wife, a 39-year-old illegal immigrant, asked not to be identified for fear the family would be arrested. The family is writing documents so her brother, a legal resident, would have custody of the children if the parents are deported. They have put their few possessions in another person's name and are trying to save what little money they can.
So get legal and live in peace, I will never understand this.'

'It is the expected response of people that are terrified, that have to keep working in order to live,'' said James Austin, a Kansas City, Mo., immigration attorney who has taught at such workshops in Kansas.Ed Hayes, Kansas director of the Minuteman Civil Defense Corps, a group opposed to illegal immigration, said he was dismayed by those who are helping illegal immigrants.''Those people ought to be arrested because they are helping people break the law,'' Hayes said. ''We have churches that are aiding and abetting people breaking the law. We have chambers of commerce who want them to do it, politicians who want them to do it. What happened to our nation of laws?''

We are at a time in our country that is of crisis proportion. When the government turns their heads from those who assist those breaking the law. I know this for a fact.....Van loads of illegals have been let go after traffic stops because SOME law enforcement didn't want to DEAL with them. I saw it happen.

Immigration informational meetings are not new, Austin said, but only recently have organizers begun distributing and discussing power of attorney documents at them. He said that's a direct response by Hispanic advocacy agencies to recent Immigration and Customs Enforcement raids, including last year's arrests of 1,282 Swift workers at plants in Colorado, Nebraska, Texas, Utah, Iowa and Minnesota.''I don't know what else to do, other than have people prepare as much as they can in case that happens here,'' said the Rev. John Fahey of St. Anthony Catholic Church in the southwestern Kansas town of Liberal, where a recent workshop drew 250 workers from meatpacking plants in southwest Kansas. The Hispanic advocacy group Hispanos Unidos of Liberal and United Methodist Mexican American Ministries helped organize the meeting, said Arturo Ponce, a former meatpacking plant worker who helped found Hispanos Unidos of Liberal.Immigrant families are also being urged to set up a savings accounts with $3,000 to $10,000 per family to pay bail bonds and other costs.''They are putting aside a little money as often as they can for such a situation,'' Ponce said. ''It is a heavy burden, but it is realistic.''Other legal advice included warnings not to sign a voluntary deportation form and to demand an immigration attorney, Ponce said.Rosas said UFCW's bilingual kit will explain workers' rights and offer practical advice for dealing with immigration problems. Among the documents in the kit are sample letters immigrants can use to better respond to the federal government's inquiries about problems with Social Security numbers.''There is always the same fear now -- everywhere you go,'' said Rosas. The extent of family preparations by undocumented workers surprised officials at Immigration and Customs Enforcement as well as the meatpacking industry's trade group, the American Meat Institute. Both groups told The Associated Press they were unaware of them.''I haven't heard of any companies actively trying to prepare workers, because if a company knows they are undocumented, they are not supposed to be hiring them anyway,'' Austin said.Employers can face charges if they knowingly hire illegal workers.Assistant U.S. Attorney Brent Anderson noted that about half of immigration-related cases in Kansas -- which has massive slaughterhouses in Dodge City, Liberal, Garden City and Emporia-- are associated with the food-processing industry. Anderson said the ''hot area now'' in the state for identity theft is in Cowley County, where Creekstone Farms Premium Beef opened a plant in 2003. He said illegal immigrants sometimes steal identities to get past the government's ''Basic Pilot'' program, which screens Social Security numbers to make sure they're real and that they match up with the person's name.

This is something that makes me so proud, (not). To find this article being printed all over the US in regard to our county being a hot bed for identity theft. This is something to be really proud of. Do we still give the packing plant tax breaks for this packing plant to be here in our community? A question I would love to know the answer too?

Don Stull, a University of Kansas anthropology professor and industry expert, said it's estimated about 25 percent of people working at the nation's meatpacking plants are in the country illegally. In the Swift raids, about 10 percent of the company's work force was arrested. The industry says it is doing everything it can to make sure it does not hire illegal immigrants.''Hiring illegal workers just doesn't make good business sense. Employee turnover is very disruptive,'' said Dave Ray, spokesman for the American Meat Institute.Ray noted the meatpacking industry was a pioneer in the early use of Basic Pilot, which he called a valuable, but not foolproof, tool.At the National Beef plant in Dodge City, general manager Carey Hoskinson said if he could convey any message to his employees, it would be to not worry about a raid. He noted his company uses government identity-verification programs as well as its own internal personnel audits.''I don't think ICE has its cross hairs on us,'' he said.

Well local and city officials need to do what they can to prevent our community from being known as the "hot area for identity theft". They need to make a plan to do something about this type of thing. They are all too worried about building a new hospital, and making down town pretty, or seizing others property, to worry about real issues like illegal aliens!!!!!!! Law enforcement is too worried about popping sales clerks for selling beer to minors to catch people who are taking a free ride at our expense. Make a plan, start working with ICE. Don't want to rock the boat??????? The most important things are the hardest to enforce. Get with it!!!!!

Saveacity,
Who are you to lecture anyone on what they are or are not doing to help? What have you done? It seems you just want to stir the proverbial pot. Why don't you worry more about what you can do to help, instead of criticizing others. Especially since you have no idea what they have (or have not) done.
